Basic Standing Meditation - November 3, 2013
- Don't just do something; stand there! A traditional practice
in qigong, standing meditation is also common in many other traditions.
It is great for those who get too drowsy when sitting or lying
down to meditate. It is also an easy form to learn, as you'll
see here. First we're going to... Continue

Mindfulness Meditation Made Easier - September,

Tip - Carry your MP3 with you on trips or drives,
and have it loaded with one or two good meditation recordings.
Don't listen while driving (that can be dangerous), but when
you stop for a quick break you can have a short meditation session.
Take a few deep breaths and walk around a bit afterwards to be
sure you are wide awake for driving again.
Focus - Buddhist monks were given vision tests
by Australian scientists, in which each eye was shown a different
image. A person's attention would normally fluctuate back and
forth, but it was found that the monks could focus on just one
of the images. This ability to bypass or override the normal
response shows how the brain can be trained, according to scientists
writing in Current Biology.
Better Health - Eight percent of Americans use
meditation to better their health, according to The National
Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. It is becoming
increasingly popular due to growing evidence for the health benefits.Recent
studies have found that 20 minute of meditation daily can relieve
back pain, depression, headaches, and anxiety. Scientists explain
these effects as due to the lowering of blood pressure, the slowed
heart and breathing rates, and biochemical changes caused by
meditation. There is also evidence meditating promotes more restful
sleep and boosts the body's immune system.
Allow your heart to remind you what the mind so easily
forgets: there is a peace. There is a shelter. There is a timeless
place in each of us that no darkness can shatter or dispel. Make
it your one intention to spend your time there. Prefer its ever-present
company to that of any promise of peace to come, and watch how
your life grows happy and whole in stillness beyond compare.

Clear mind is like the full moon in the sky. Sometimes
clouds come and cover it, but the moon is always behind them.
Clouds go away, then the moon shines brightly. So don't worry
about clear mind: it is always there. When thinking comes, behind
it is clear mind. When thinking goes, there is only clear mind.
Thinking comes and goes, comes and goes, You must not be attached
to the coming or the going. - Zen Master Seung Sahn
